Period pain :(
Period pains are cramps you experience during your period. This happens because your uterus has to contract to push the old lining out. It's the same type of pain as contractions when you give birth just not as bad. Period pain can be really annoying when you're trying to concentrate in school or you don't want to give up everyday activities.
There are a number of medications you can take to relieve period pain but I'm only going to mention one. This is for two reasons. Firstly medication differs from country to country and I don't have a wide knowledge of worldwide medications. Secondly I am not a doctor and I do not want to accidently give you incorrect advice! Pills aren't lollies and I don't want to risk harming any of you.
What I use for period pain is Ibuprofen. (This is the drug name not the brand name it'll have a brand name it's best know by in your country). It's a muscle relaxant so since your uterus is a muscle it helps stop cramps. Dosage depends on your age and weight. Read the back of the box for more information and do not take more than directed. If it doesn't work for you stop using it and find something else that does. It's not often mentioned but Ibuprofen should be taken with food. The food protects your stomach from the drug and helps it kick in faster.
Aspirin is a popular drug to relieve headaches, however it is not recommended you take Aspirin for period pain. Aspirin is a blood thinner and will make your flow heavier.
If you are experiencing very bad pain period pain then you need to talk to your mum and/or doctor. It may be embarrassing but is it really worth the pain? If you get bad period pain your mum probably gets/got bad period pain too (because you're related) so she'll understand where you're coming from. A doctor has a wide knowledge of pain relievers so they're the best person for the job. If you find it embarrassing ask for a female doctor.
If you know you get period pain when you're on your period then take whatever pain reliever you use as soon as you start to feel cramps. Once I decided I didn't really need pain reliever. I was wrong, the cramps really started hurting in the middle of class and I felt like I was going to faint. I took my pills but even then they needed food to start working and I couldn't pull my sandwich out in the middle of class. In the end I was so pale my teacher actually sent me home!
The old fashioned trick for period pain is a hot water bottle placed on your stomach. They're also really cosy in winter (:
