bullying
I think we can all agree that bullying is not cool, but sadly unless you are the bully there will probably be a time in your life that someone bullies you. So maybe you don't want to say anything because you think bullying only happens to little kids? Wrong! Bullying happens to everyone even adults, have you ever hear of workplace bullying? It's different from tipping over another kid's bucket of sand but the principals are the same thing. The definition for bullying is; use superior strength or influence to intimidate (someone), typically to force him or her to do what one wants. Which really means if someone's deliberately pissing you off, it's bullying.
Bullies are often damaged people. They can have many family problems going on divorced parents, many siblings and have to compete for attention. They're probably jealous of you. Who was it that got top in last weeks math test? Not them, that's for sure. All bullies really want to have a secure life. Caring parents, good grades at school, real friends. It's probably hard to imagine to you because you don't see anything special in your life but it's exactly what a bully craves.
There are many types of bullying some include teasing, text bullying, internet bullying, racism and physical abuse. Teasing is often how it starts off. Insults like you're short, stupid, bad at sport, nerdy, hairy, ginger etc. It doesn’t mean anything to the bully but it can really hurt your feelings. The first thing you should do is ignore them, as much as it hurts inside you have to try to show no reaction. If they get no reaction from you they'll move on to the next person. It can be very tempting to have a go at a come-back but that's exactly what they want out of you. A good come-back could shut them up but did you ever think what might happen if they have their own come-back ready?
So what are you options if you're being bullied? There are the one's everyone talks about, tell a parent or guardian, trusted teacher or school principal. Well it's great if you can talk to these people but sometimes it's the people we love who will make the situation even worse. Every case of bullying is different so I can't give you steps to follow. What you need to do is tell someone, wether it be a parent, teacher, principal, helpline or me. You need someone you can trust, someone who won't make things worse. If you have no one to talk to or don't know how to tell your mum then please talk to me. We can go through your situation and take things a step at a time. I was bullied when I was at school and I know how it feels. Staying silent won't help you because it will eat away at you until you crack.
